How to ELEVATE a Casual Outfit

We all have those days when we just want to throw on something comfortable and casual.
But what if I told you there was a way to be comfortable and still look ultra-luxe by taking that same outfit and elevating it to a luxurious and expensive look?
With my 10+ years in fashion and a few simple tips and tricks, I will help you turn any effortless outfit into complete sophistication.
1. Invest in the Basics
So let’s start with the basics, these are pieces that are versatile, timeless, and will probably be in your wardrobe for years. Your basics are
a classic white T-shirt (fitted and loose fit)
a good pair of jeans that flatter your shape, and most importantly you can sit down in
a cotton jumpsuit in white, black, navy or other neutrals
A pair of drawstring trousers, if you can stay away from the tracksuit material then do
a comfortable pair of shoes.
When investing in these basics, look for high-quality materials like cotton, silk, and cashmere, not only will add an instant touch of luxury to your look, they will last for years making it worth it in the long run.
2. Accessorize
Once you have your basics in place, it's time to add accessories that will take your outfit to the next level.
Try a structured handbag, it doesn’t have to be designer, logos are not a factor when it comes to style.
Look to brands such as DeMellier, Strathberry or Mango for a beautifully structured piece.
Another great statement piece is a chunky gold men’s timepiece.
It gives the boss vibes and instantly adds a sense of luxury to a laid-back look. If your wrist is too small, simply ask for the links to be removed for the perfect fit.
My favourite way to turn a casual outfit luxe is to accessorise my outfit with a pair of stylish sunglasses.
Depending on my mood and the occasion, I tend to go for very large, oversized, and sometimes retro specs to make it seem as though I made some sort of effort.
If it’s a day of running errands or going on a summer evening walk (circadian rhythm and all that) I’ll stick to my trusty dark tortoise wayfarers, however, lunch dates require something extra, I would reach for something cat-eyed or oversized.
Whatever you choose, make sure it's a high-quality piece that will stand out and add an element of high-end to your casual look.
3. Minimal Jewellery
Keep your jewellery simple with minimal pieces such as a delicate gold chain, or small gold hoops.
If you are good at layering and stacking then by all means do, just be sure to keep a good balance.
You want your jewellery to compliment your outfit, not overpower it. Look to brands like Mejuri who are ideal for gorgeous, wearable pieces.
4. Wear Comfy but Stylish Footwear
The most important aspect of a casual look is always the shoes, that is where we want the most comfort despite your shoes having the ability to make or break an outfit, there is still a way to an a luxe flair to a laid-back look.
Turn to footwear styles which include a classic pair of loafers, a sleek sandal in a neutral colour for warmer months or ankle boots for when it starts to get much colder.
Again, look for high-quality materials like leather or suede, and choose a style that complements your outfit.
5. Choose Luxe Fabrics
And finally, if you want to turn your casual attire into a luxe-worthy look, you must consider your fabrics. For example, save the tracksuit bottoms for morning walks or lounging around the house.
Instead choose trousers with a softer, looser material as well as a drawstring. By doing this, you still have the comfort of a waistband but the material of the trousers makes it look a little more chic.
