The Rise of the Curve Girls: How These Instagram Influencers are Making a Difference

Lauren Nicole (@laurennicole)

Social media gets a bad rep for its toxic culture and influence on however there are also many good things about platforms such as Instagram and Tiktok and one of those things is the celebration of the curve girl. We as women have been taught to look one way when it comes o our bodies but as know, the reality is we come in a diverse range of sizes which has led to a powerful movement for promoting body positivity and self-love, especially for curvy women who have historically been underrepresented in mainstream media.

Instagram is home to a thriving community of plus-size women who are using their platforms to celebrate their curves and inspire others to do the same. Here are five curve girlies on Instagram who I personally love and who are empowering women to embrace their bodies and live life to the fullest.

Pearl Froud (@pearl_froud)

I stumbled across Pearl earlier this year when she did a TikTok for H&M based on Sofia Richie’s style and the dresses she modelled looked unreal, especially if you are someone who is heavier on the bottom. I ran over to H&M and lo and behold everything piece she modelled had sold out! Pearl mixes her style up between figure hugging dresses, body wear, itty bitty bikinis, and cool basics such as crop tops and jeans. It’s obvious that Pearl understands her body shape very well, knows what and how to wear each piece to flatter her assets.

Lauren Nicole (@laurennicolefk)

An OG in the curve game and in particular a firm favourite amongst black plus size women is, Lauren Nicole. Lauren is known for her gorgeous use of bold colours and print (something bigger girls are often told to stay away from) and wears each item with confidence and class.

A true Sag girl, hell bent on breaking the rules from ‘women should blend in’ Lauren Nicole stands out in the most alluring way and expresses herself through each outfit not shying away from being seen… And we love to see it!

Callie Thorpe (@calliethorpe)

I couldn’t do an article on curve girls without mentioning Callie Thorpe, who is not only well know for her curves, but also for her lifestyle aesthetic.

Callie comes in as a breath of fresh air with her minimal/ Mediterranean-esque style which is hugely popular on Pinterest right now and reminds us that all lovers of this certain aesthetic come in different shapes and sizes same but can still be equally deemed an inspiration for all things travel and well-being.

Abisola Omole (@abimarvel)

CEO and creative director of lifestyle brand Arva, Abisola is right up my street in terms of both boss girl vibes and style. Her contemporary and minimalist wardrobe is just what the doctor ordered if you love a simple but stylish look which you can carry through different seasons year after year. Abi express her style through timeless pieces that flatter her curves beautifully and proves simple and stylish can still make statements.

How to Use These Girls as Inspiration

While it's important to celebrate the beauty and diversity of these curve girls on Instagram, it's also important to remember that everyone's body type is still unique and different. Here are a few ways to help you use these women as inspiration:

  • Focus on the positive:

Instead of fixating on your perceived flaws, focus on the things you love about yourself. Celebrate your curves and unique beauty, and remind yourself that you are worthy of love and respect, regardless of your size.

  • Find your own style:

Use these curve girls as inspiration, but don't feel like you have to conform to anyone else's style or fashion choices. Experiment with different looks and find the ones that make you feel confident and beautiful. Use pinterest as a way to find inspiration.

  • Read blogs and watch videos to learn how to style for your shape

Just as you have done reading this article, look for blogs, influencers, and Youtube on women with curves who are demonstrating how they style their clothes according to their shape. Take their tips and suggestions, then practice using the pieces in your own wardrobe.
