How To Unlock Your Dreams Using Nervous System Regulation
When think about becoming the best version of ourselves, or living our dream life, or creating a new reality, we tend to follow the line of visualisation, affirmations and remaining ‘high vibe’.
But guess what? Trying to remain ‘high vibe’ is exactly when under pressure people return to their old selves and back at square one.
The reason for this is that although you can imagine your dream home, although you can state affirmations about your ideal partner, deep down you don’t feel these things with conviction, you don’t feel safe enough to really, and truly explore these desires, and that’s because your nervous system might be out of whack
However this concept is far from magic or wishful thinking, and for those looking for a more logical explanation, there is actually a scientific basis for how manifestation works.
In this article, I’m going to share how to unlock your dreams and live the life you can’t stop dreaming about using nervous system regulation.
What is the Nervous System and Why Does It Matter in Manifestation?
Your nervous system is what’s responsible for how you respond to stress, how you process emotions and ultimately how safe you feel when stepping into new realities.
This important system in your body is made up of two main components:
The central nervous system (CNS)
The peripheral nervous system (PNS)
The CNS includes your brain and spinal cord, while the PNS includes all the nerves that extend from the CNS to the rest of your body.
Let me break this down a bit better because it can be a lot to understand, but once you understand, it becomes easier to follow and more importantly you’ll understand why it’s so important to keep your nervous system regulated.
When you experience stress or anxiety, your sympathetic nervous system is activated, leading to a range of physical symptoms, including increased heart rate, rapid breathing, and muscle tension. This is otherwise known as fight-or-flight.
When you focus your attention on a positive outcome, such as getting a new job, meeting the partner of your dreams, or a few more zeros on the end of those digits in your bank account, your nervous system begins to respond in a different way.
It activates the parasympathetic nervous system (PSNS ), which is known as rest-and-digest. When your PSNS is activated, your body is in a state of calm and relaxation.
Think of a time when you felt a wash of resistance when trying to transform your life.
Maybe you got anxious when you thought about receiving more money, or you sabotage relationships when they get too good. That’s your nervous system keeping you in familiar territory because it equates familiarity with safety.
True manifestation isn’t just about thinking positive thoughts, it’s about training your nervous system to feel safe receiving what you desire
Why Nervous System Regulation is Part of My Morning Routine
I remember the days when I used to wake up, jump straight into work, and wonder why I felt so flat and defeated for the rest of the day.
No matter how many affirmations I repeated, no matter how much I visualised people around the world reading my blog, I still felt like something was blocking me.
It wasn’t until I learned about the importance of nervous system regulation that everything shifted.
Now, every morning, before I check my phone or dive into work, I take a few minutes to check myself. This could be deep breathing, cold exposure, or even just stretching while listening to an affirmation tape, sometimes it’s just even pressing play on my playlist of classical music.
When my body feels safe and regulated, I can hold bigger manifestations with ease. Instead of starting my day from a place of stress, scarcity, and lack, I move through my day with confidence, clarity, and conviction.
How to Regulate Your Nervous System in Five Minutes
But the good news about all of this is that you can train your nervous system to feel safe receiving what you want.
And the best part? It only takes five minutes a day.
Here’s a simple five-minute routine that will shift you into a calm, receptive state:
Deep Breathing (1 Minute) – Inhale through your nose for four seconds, hold for four seconds, and exhale for eight seconds. This activates the parasympathetic nervous system and signals safety to your body. You can find my personal playlist inside my Ultimate Glow-Up Program here.
Vagus Nerve Stimulation (1 Minute) – Humming, singing, or gargling water stimulates the vagus nerve, helping you shift out of fight-or-flight mode quickly. Ear massages are my favourite, watch this.
Cold Exposure (30 Seconds - 1 Minute) – Splashing cold water on your face or using ice globes and some facial oil can reset your nervous system quickly
Somatic Movement (1 Minute) – Gently shake your arms, roll your shoulders, or stretch to release stored tension from your body.
When you practice these techniques daily, your nervous system learns to associate expansion with safety.
You’ll notice that opportunities flow more easily, your manifestations come faster, and you feel more at peace with the changes you’re calling in.
Finally…
