None of This is Real! You're in A Game. Here's How To Play & WIN!
When I first heard that our time here in this physical space was just an illusion, I didn’t know what to think…
I said to myself “Is that a good or bad thing?”
I mean, it’s not entirely difficult to believe, sometimes it doesn’t feel real.
But what if this theory wasn’t far from the truth?
What if this reality we call life was more like a game, one where the rules are hidden, but the rewards are limitless once you figure them out?
Like most, I had my realisation about life when I read the book The Secret which taught us all that we have more control over our lives than what we might have thought.
Because I promise you I had a very different outlook before this knowledge. I often felt like I was on autopilot, going through the motions of life.
I didn’t realise that I was a player in a game with infinite possibilities until I started teaching myself more about personal development and consciously shifting my mindset.
In this article, we’ll explore not only this concept as a metaphor but also as a framework for understanding the world as a game, how to play, and most importantly, how you can win!
Life as a Simulation
Once you understand that life is a mental and spiritual game, you can start the process of playing it.
This isn’t just a sci-fi concept from movies like The Matrix, a great movie, but it’s more of a perspective, one that is becoming increasingly popular.
The simulation theory suggests that your reality runs parallel to a virtual world, one where we’re conscious participants navigating through pre-programmed environments.
Sounds confusing right? Yet at the same time, it also gave me a sense of clarity. If life is a simulation, then we have more power than we think.
Every thought, decision, and action is like entering a code into the system, and the simulation responds accordingly.
Whether or not the theory is "true" doesn’t matter, it’s an empowering way to see life.
Because it means you can rewrite your code and create the reality you desire.
The Basics
Before we discuss the rules of the game, let’s uncover the basics so you understand the foundations.
Life Is Neutral
The game itself isn’t rigged for or against you, it simply reacts to what you believe to be true about it.
Whether you see it as a battlefield, a playground, or a strategy board, that’s how it will show up for you.
For years, I thought life was happening to me, but when I started acting as if it was happening for me, everything made sense and doors began to open.
Your Thoughts Are the Controller
The thoughts you think and the emotions you feel determine how you play.
If you constantly think you’re losing, the game will mirror that back to you. If you believe life is a game that you can win, situations, circumstances and people will show up to support this belief.
Every Player Has a Unique Role
No one else can play your role. Your unique desires, talents, and quirks are clues about how you’re meant to play. When I embraced my love for mindset and personal development, it felt like I unlocked a new level in the game.
Think about what your passions are, don’t copy anyone else, create your playbook and watch how fast things begin to unfold.
How to Play
Okay, let’s go!
Here’s the step-by-step guide to playing the game and winning at life:
1. Define Your Game
Think about this: What do you actually want from this life? Fame, peace, wealth, health, love? Your desires act as your ‘game objectives.’
The clearer you are about what you want to attract, the easier it will be to map out your moves.
Write down your desires like they’re a mission statement. For me, it was earning six figures while living in luxury and helping others achieve their glow-ups.
Break them into "mini-levels" (small milestones) o not to become overwhelmed with the process.
For example, instead of "I want to be a millionaire" I started with "How can I make £1,000 extra this month?"
2. Know the Rules
Every game has rules, and this one does, too. They’re not written down, but they’re easy to spot:
The Rule of Universal Laws: The Law of Attraction states like attracts like. Your energy creates your reality. But did you know there were many more universal laws? You can find them here.
The Rule of Power of Discipline: Consistent action gets you the results you want. Remember life is a mental game so physical action isn’t always necessary especially if it’s not productive. Instead try inspired action, which is the action you feel called to do.
The Rule of Perspective: What you focus on expands. If you’re constantly focusing on obstacles, they’ll grow, if you focus on solutions, they’ll appear.
No rule is more important than the other, they all should be followed to have a chance of winning in this game of life. Thankfully, there are only three lol! But although there are only three, do not underestimate their power.
3. Upgrade Your Player
Just like in a video game, you can level up your character by upgrading your skills, mindset, and resources.
Transform Your Self-Concept: How do you see yourself? Start seeing yourself as someone who already wins. When I shifted my self-image from "struggling content creator" to "luxury lifestyle and mindset mentor," my new beliefs started to reflect in the community I was building.
Learn the Game Mechanics: Whether that’s improving your communication, managing money better, or learning new skills, invest in yourself. For me, this meant learning more about how the brain works, human behaviour and overall wellness.
The person you were when you started the game should not be the person you are once you’ve been in the game. The goal is to continuously level up and improve as the MVP (most valuable player)
4. Enter the Boss Levels
Just because you now know how to play the game, it doesn’t mean there won’t be any challenges. Look at rule number 3: The Rule of Perspective and see these obstacles as "boss levels" designed to test your readiness for the next level.
They’re not meant to break you; they’re meant to make you stronger, they’re meant as a chance for you to say to the universe “No matter what you throw at me, I’m coming for what I deserve”.
Reframe Failures: Every failure is feedback. When I launched my first course, it didn’t take off the way I expected. Instead of giving up, I treated it like a lesson and refined my approach.
Stay in the Game: Don’t quit mid-level. Give it enough time before you throw in the towel. Often, the breakthrough comes just after you’ve considered giving up.
5. Use Your Cheat Codes
Let’s be honest, we have desires and we want to see them NOW. There’s nothing wrong with a little hack to help you along.
And the good news? This game has cheat codes! Here are a few you can use:
Visualisation: Imagine the life you want as if it’s already happening. Picture yourself living your dream reality.
What do you see, hear, and feel? I visualise my dream apartment every night before I go to bed, I can feel the marble kitchen island and smell the greenery from the lake opposite my balcony window, and I can hear the sounds of Bossa Nova as I prepare some food for dinner. In my mind, I’m already living there.
Reprogramming: Your subconscious mind is the operating system of the game, and it holds the beliefs that determine your reality. Use techniques like EFT tapping or listening to affirmation sleep tapes to rewrite outdated beliefs.
These are the techniques I used to overcome my fear of showing up on camera. My inner beliefs of not being good enough to show my face were holding me back. Reprogramming deep-rooted beliefs help me to overcome that fear.
Elevated Emotions: Combine your thoughts with the energy of elevated emotions like gratitude, joy, or excitement.
The game responds not just to what you think, but how you feel. When you visualise yourself achieving your dreams allow the emotions of experiencing them to take over.
If you find this difficult to do, create a playlist of music that makes you feel good and as you sing along to the song visualise yourself as someone who is already living the life you want to manifest.
How To Win!
I should warn you that winning doesn’t mean there’s a ‘final level’ so don’t feel disheartened if it feels as if there is no end.
That’s because there isn’t. As humans is normal to grow and continue learning and desiring different goals at each chapter of our lives.
But if you want to feel as though you achieved a winning point, let feeling fulfilled, aligned, content, and proud of the life you’re building be the indication.
Here’s how to stay in a ‘winning mindset’:
Celebrate every small win like it’s the jackpot.
You can even visualise your friends and family congratulating you on your achievements. I replay my family congratulating me on moving into my dream home like it’s my favourite song.
Keep upgrading your goals as you grow. When I hit one milestone, I enjoy the result, I celebrate, usually by buying myself something small, like a handbag haha! But soon after I ask, "Okay, that was amazing, what’s next?"
Share your victories with others. Whether it’s inspiring someone with your story or helping someone through their struggles, remember that collaboration is part of the game. Teach others how you did it, that’s how the world gets better.
Finally…
Life might feel like chaos sometimes, but when you start seeing it as a game, a simulation where you’re the main player, it becomes exciting.
You realise you’re in control of your moves, and the game will respond to you accordingly.
Looking back, every "glitch" in my life was just the game nudging me to a better level which I know you can master too. So, grab your controller, define your objectives, and start playing intentionally. The only limit is how big you’re willing to dream.
