Why Doing Less Can Help You RECIEVE MORE
For the longest time ever and well into my glow-up journey, I believed hard work equalled success.
“No pain, no gain” or “Hard work pays off.” were phrases I read in books, heard on podcasts, and within conversations with family, friends, and work colleagues.
But what if I told you that the key to receiving more was to do less. Impossible right?
“What do you mean, do less to get more?” I hear you ask. I didn’t quite get it when I first heard about this idea either, but the more I learned about it, the more it made sense.
The truth is, most people are stuck in a cycle of doing, striving, hustling, and pushing, yet they never seem to reach the level of abundance they often dream about whether it’s in money, love, career, or health.
Why?
Because what they’re trying to attract on a physical level can only be attracted on a mental and vibrational one
I quickly realised that abundance flows not when I’m overexerting myself, or hustling over the next project, but when I align my energy with the version of myself I dream to be.
In this article, I’m going to share how I’ve gone from hustling every hour of the day to relaxing into the version of myself that naturally attracts success because this shift didn’t just change my mindset, it changed my life!
The Law of Least Effort
I think one of my first introductions to learning to chill the f**k out and let things come at ease was when I read the Seven Spiritual Laws of Success by Deepak Chopra.
The Law of Least Effort states that nature achieves its results with the least amount of resistance.
Think of it like a river, it doesn’t put up a fight to flow right?
There’s no resistance or even any form of trying to reason against the direction, it follows the path of least effort.
Well, this same principle applies to life and certainly to attracting abundance.
“The law of least effort is about aligning with the flow of nature. When you stop struggling, the universe works on your behalf.”
When you let go of trying to control the outcome of your desires and instead focus on just being, you align with the flow of what the universe brings into your reality.
Here’s how the Law of Least Effort works in practice:
Inspired Action: Stop overcomplicating the process. Focus on aligned actions and sparks of inspiration that feel good rather than forcing outcomes.
Acceptance: Embrace where you are right now. When you can be good with or without it the universe believes you must already have it and by universal law has to send people, circumstances and situations to match. Resisting your current reality only creates more resistance.
Trust: Let go of the “how” and trust that the universe will bring what you need at the right time.
Why Hard Work Alone Doesn’t Pay Off
Something that used to leave me feeling confused about hard work being the answer to success was that
I knew so many people who were working hard, yet they struggled every month to make ends meet.
Have you ever thought about that?
I knew people who worked overtime all of the time. People who worked a 9-5 at an office job, then a 7-11 on their side hustle, and single mothers who worked three jobs to keep the lights on at home, they were certainly abundant in strength, but it didn’t seem as though much else was being manifested.
But I realised, abundance doesn’t respond to how much you sweat for it. Abundance responds to how you are emotionally aligned you are with it.
Here are a few reasons why I stopped putting in so much physical effort to attract abundance:
Energy Mismatch: I can’t attract abundance if my energy is always focused on lack.
Burnout Blocks Flow: Overworking leads to frustration. This lowered my vibration and limited my inspiration window.
Hustling from Fear: I love a good hustle as much as the next boss girl. But working hard out of fear or desperation only attracted more scarcity.
When I started my first projects, I was in constant “go mode.” I loved it! (I’m on the cusp between Sagittarius and Capricorn if you're an Astrology girlie you would know what that means for me when it comes to ambition).
I thought if I just did more, success would eventually follow. But all I got was irritation and even more impatient than I normally am if you can imagine that.
It wasn’t until I began prioritising rest, romanticising my life, and self-care that opportunities began flowing effortlessly into my life.
From Human Doing to a Human Being
My toxic trait is listening to so many podcasts, and reading so many books when it comes to referencing something I remember, I don’t remember who said it lol!
But I think it was Sadhguru who said something along the lines of “Considering we are human beings we are never being at all, we are human doings”
This is not a direct quote. It was just something that stuck with me and made sense.
So, how do you shift from being a “human doing” to a “human being”? It starts with letting go of the need to constantly perform.
Being still is the optimal point of all manifestation because when you are still you’re energy is neutral.
Here’s how I’ve embraced life as a human being over ‘human doing’:
Daily Visualisation: Every morning, I imagine myself already living my dream life. This aligns me with the feeling of having it now meaning I have nothing to prove to others but mainly to myself.
Slowing Down: I stopped over-scheduling my days and allowed time for rest and play. This not only increased my happiness but also my creativity.
Practicing Gratitude: Just being thankful for my journey so far raises my vibration and helps me focus on what’s going well rather than what’s missing.
*Why Relaxing Helps You Receive More
The subconscious mind, which governs 95% of your thoughts and actions, plays a critical role in what you attract. Relaxation is key to reprogramming your subconscious because it allows your brain to enter a Theta state, a deeply relaxed state where the subconscious is most receptive to new ideas.
“Stress is the enemy of creativity and clarity. When you relax, you give your brain the space it needs to focus on solutions and opportunities.”
Here’s how it works:
When you visualise yourself already having what you desire, your brain begins to form new neural pathways that reinforce the belief that it’s possible.
These neural pathways signal to your brain’s algorithm aka, the reticular activating system (RAS) to filter out distractions and focus on opportunities that align with your goals.
The more relaxed and aligned you are, the easier it becomes for your brain to “magnetise” opportunities.
How to Relax Your Way to Abundance
Great! So, now you’re probably thinking…
“Okay, I need to relax to get more of what I want, but how do I do that?”
If you’re ready to receive more by doing less, here are some actionable steps that I do which you can try out too:
Set Intentions, Then Let Go: Write down what you desire, but don’t obsess over how it will come. Trust that it’s already on its way.
Create Space for Happiness: Make time for activities that make you happy. I love window shopping and actual shopping too. It’s one of the highest vibrational states you can be in.
Meditate Daily: Meditation quiets the mind and helps you connect to the version of yourself that already has what you desire.
Declutter Your Schedule: There’s nothing appealing about always being busy. It shows neglect in your priority of self-care. Focus only on doing things that feel aligned with your abundant self and say no to what doesn’t serve your highest good.
Finally…
Relaxing into abundance isn’t always easy, especially if you’re used to grinding your way through life. I’ve had moments of doubt, wondering if I was doing enough.
But every time I surrendered and trusted, something magical happened. Unexpected clients reached out, opportunities appeared, and even small daily joys seemed more abundant.
The key is knowing that your worth isn’t tied to how much you do. You are worthy of abundance simply because you exist.
So take a breath, let go, and trust that the universe has your back.
