9 Simple Steps To Clear Your Mind

  1. Listen to music that calms you

Choose to listen to songs that you can relax and feel good to. Music has the ability to improve your mood and relieve stress so listen to your favourite feel-good songs as often as you need since this will help to clear your mind.

  2. Go for walk

Never underestimate the power of walking. Similar to music, walking helps to boost your mood, clear your mind and refocus, that’s why it feels so good to listen to music while walking. This is different than if you were to walk as a workout, walking to clear your mind requires walking at a slower pace and focusing on your balancing out your breathing

  3. Spend time among nature

If you have access, go for a walk outside surrounded by nature such as your local park. Nature grounds us, and is a great distraction from every day things to do, soothes the soul and gives your mind a moment to clear

  4. Journal/Keep a diary/Write a blog

Sometimes our thoughts can get the better of us where they all seem to be piling on top of one another. See journaling, as mental tool to declutter your thoughts and filter them out from your head to paper. Try not to take journaling too seriously, there is no right or wrong answers, just say what’s on your mind, it doesn’t have to make sense just go with the flow. If journaling isn’t your thing, keep a diary or even start a blog. When I started Coffee Moon ,it was because I had a lot on my mind, much I wanted to say but felt as though I didn’t have enough space to say it. Use journal prompts to help you get out what you want to say or just write down a few things you are grateful for.

  5. Take a break

Listen to your body and know when it’s time to take a break. There have been many times I have gone past the point of listening to what my body needs then one random day I would have a complete breakdown all because I didn’t listen and give myself a break. If your mind and body are forcing you to slow down and pause, then do so. Go for a walk, step away from the computer, watch a film, or listen to music.

  6. Get some sleep

Sleep is heavily underrated for what a good amount can do for your health. A lack of sleep can interfere with your concentration, your focus and your decision making. It can also cause you to be irritable and frustrated making it harder to let go of overloaded thoughts. Create a good sleep/wake cycle and aim for 7-8 hours between the two.

  7. Tidy your space

You may not be aware of how your surroundings can have an impact on your mental environment but it is certainly something you should take note of. The first and most powerful way to start your day is to make your bed. Then, if you work from home keep your desk tidy by using organisers and files. Buy storage containers to put away old clothes and accessories or give the away to charity to minimise mess and clutter. By doing this you allow your home to feel more like a sanctuary where you go to unwind and relax.

  8. Learn to say no

Warren Buffet famously said ‘ Successful people say no, often’ I would like to add peaceful people too. Avoid saying yes to every social event, every dinner, every invite. It’s okay to prioritise your own needs and saying no reduces stress and offers valuable time to yourself, a chance to enjoy your own company.

  9. Talk about it

Speak to your friends, a boss, a work mate about how you feel, a lot of the time you can find people who can relate but we are unaware because either we don’t think others will understand or we don’t want to feel as though we are bothering them with our problems but you would be surprised by how many people like to offer a helping hand. Be honest about how you are feeling and don’t be afraid to vocalise that you are currently facing mental fog and feeling overwhelmed. When you do this it allows others who care about you to share their perspective and could open you up to new solutions you hadn't heard of before.

Of course if you feel as though you can’t talk to anyone in your circle whether that be at home, work or a friends, professional advice might be able to give you extra support.
