How To Elevate and Start INVESTING IN YOURSELF

Preview

The word investment tends to scare people away because we often associate it with using huge amounts of money

However, this couldn't be further from the truth as investment doesn't always require money. It can also mean an investment of your time or energy.

Whether you want to grow personally or professionally, the key to unlocking your potential lies in how much you’re willing to invest in your own development.

In this blog I will share some ways you can elevate your life and start investing in yourself.

Become the Best at What You Do

As I’ve gone along in my self-development journey, something I’ve realised is in order to be successful in whatever I want to do, I should focus on becoming the best at it.

Average habits will only bring me average results. If I want to be extraordinary, I’m going to have to become an extraordinary person.

Mastering your skills, whether it’s speaking, creating, entertaining, writing etc. and becoming the best in your field is a powerful form of self-investment. This level of commitment to excellence pushes you beyond the line of average and helps you stand out in both your career and personal life.

Mastering a skill doesn’t always come at a cost, and sometimes it does. But how much do you want to be successful? A little bit or a lot?

I regularly attend workshops and sign up for courses, masterclasses, webinars and other methods of learning, some are free, some are not.

But I pay with my money, time, energy and sometimes all three because that’s the only way I become a better mentor and teacher to my community.

  • Practice deliberately: Focus on honing in on the specific areas of your craft or skill that need improvement rather than practising what you already know well.

  • Ask for feedback: Constructive criticism from mentors, colleagues, or family members can accelerate your learning process and push you to new heights. Ask someone you respect.

  • Stay committed: Consistently aim to exceed expectations in every task, project, or role you undertake.

Mastering your skills is a long-term investment, but it allows you to build expertise that commands respect, recognition, and greater opportunities.

Increase Your Confidence

A lack of confidence is often the root cause for not showing up for yourself, and to start a process of self-investment you need the courage to show up for yourself consistently.

But it doesn’t happen overnight.

Building your self-confidence means making conscious effort, having enough self-awareness, and the willingness to step out of your comfort zone and see what’s on the other side of fear.

Every small step towards achieving your goals increases your confidence and belief in yourself.

Change your internal dialogue: Listen closely to the way you talk about yourself. Do you use a depreciating group of words or an appreciating group of words?

If you think and speak as though you do not deserve success, you act in a way that matches your thoughts. But becoming conscious of your inner conversations and stating positive affirmations daily help reshape your mindset, creating a more confident self-image and acting from an improved mindset.

Take pride in your appearance: While confidence comes from within, dressing well and looking the part can have a significant impact on how you feel.

Go through your wardrobe and see if your current style reflects the woman you want to be, the woman you visualise and dream about being, if not, start making a change.

Put together a mood board of how the best version of you dresses and slowly build your collection into an aligned version of who you want to be.

Expand Your Social Circle

Your network can improve your net worth.

Don't run away just yet. I know, networking is a scary word.

But guess what? That was the old way.

Today, in order to network, you don't even have to leave the house. Join online groups that discuss topics you're interested in, meet new people in a course you've signed up for, or make new friends at your local yoga class.

The people you surround yourself with have a significant impact on your growth and success.

Expanding your social circle to include people who inspire, challenge, and support you can elevate your life in meaningful ways.

Here are a few ways you can do this:

Network intentionally: Attend events where you can meet like-minded people through events, whether for professional or personal growth.

Join communities or groups: Being part of a group, whether online or in person, helps you exchange ideas and collaborate on projects.

Seek out mentors: A mentor can provide valuable guidance and insight, helping you avoid common pitfalls and encouraging you to push past limitations.

Invest in Education

It’s no secret that the more you know, the more you are seen as a person of value and expertise.

Lifelong learning is one of the most valuable investments you can make. I’m not just talking about getting a degree from university, I mean committing to constantly evolving and expanding your knowledge base.

This can be through online courses, reading books, the people you follow on social media, or podcast episodes to feed your mind with new skills and ideas that open up endless opportunities.

  • Enrol in an online course: There are countless platforms offering courses in everything from business to creative arts, to mindset and self-development.

  • Attend webinars and workshops: These can be great ways to stay updated with the latest industry trends.

  • Join a book club or self-study group: Discussing ideas with others helps solidify your understanding and adds new perspectives. Reading also expands your vocabulary and improves your speech which is a valuable skill to have.

Prioritise Your Mental and Physical Health

Prioritise Your Mental Health

Mental health is the cornerstone of a balanced and fulfilling life. You cannot pour from an empty cup, so it’s essential to prioritise your mental well-being just as much as your physical health.

Taking care of your mind enables you to show up fully in all areas of life.

  • Practice breathwork or meditation: These practices reduce stress and help you stay grounded in the present moment.

  • Seek professional help when needed: Sometimes what we find online isn’t enough and the next step is to seek therapy or counselling. A brilliant way to invest in maintaining your mental well-being.

  • Establish a self-care routine: Whether it’s journaling, taking regular breaks, or having digital detoxes, find activities that help you unwind.

Take Care of Your Physical Health

I always know when I’m neglecting my physical health because I suddenly feel drained and lethargic.

This is when it’s time for me to step up on the nutrition and fitness front and bring my physical self back to a good place.

You can’t achieve your best self without prioritising your physical health. Physical and mental health are intertwined, so taking care of your body will also improve your emotional well-being.

  • Exercise regularly: Whether you’re doing Pilates at home, going for a walk, or hitting the gym, moving your body increases energy levels and improves mental clarity.

  • Eat nutritious food: Limit how much ultra-processed food you consume. Stick to an 80/20 diet that consists mainly of healthy, balanced meals. This will help boost productivity and keep you feeling your best.

  • Sleep, sleep, sleep: A well-rested body and mind are more effective, so make sure you're getting enough quality sleep each night.

Investing in your physical health will give you the energy and stamina to pursue all your other goals.

Create a Vision for Your Future

Having a clear vision of where you want to go is the first step in making it a reality.

When you invest time in creating a vision for your future, you set the tone for the actions and decisions that will lead you to success.

  • Visualise your goals: Regularly imagine your ideal future and what it looks like to achieve your dreams. Do this just before you go to bed when your subconscious mind is more susceptible.

  • Create a vision board: Create a mood board that represents your life goals to keep you motivated and focused.

Having a clear vision helps you stay on track, allowing you to make consistent progress toward becoming the best version of yourself.

Final Words

Investing in yourself isn’t just about making more money or achieving external success—it's about nurturing the internal growth that leads to a more fulfilled life.

Whether it’s expanding your mind, nurturing your mental health, or building relationships, these investments in yourself will pay off for years to come.
